Humans Crave Green
by Sally Painter on October 25, 2009
It may sound strange, but psychological tests have shown that human beings are geared toward the color green more than any other color. In fact, if a person is denied any green, depression will set in and the mental health of the individual becomes jeopardized.
Some argue that it’s a defense mechanism of nature. Whatever the reason, it’s no wonder that people enjoy going to the city park, decorate homes with plants, landscape yards, hike national forests, and need a nature fix the same way we all need water. Scientists believe this could be genetic coding that predisposes us to living on the planet. Others argue that because we are a part of this planet green is naturally going to be a significant color that’s connected to the human psyche.
A recent study conducted on depression and the lack of the color green revealed that you are 21% more likely to become depressed and irritable if you aren’t exposed to nature and green on a regular basis. If you’ve been looking for an excuse to introduce houseplants into your home, this is your chance. Arguing with your spouse on painting the den green? Here’s your ammo. It only shows that the term, going green is an appropriate one.
