Earth Day Slogans

From LoveToKnow GreenLiving

Earth Day slogans are the perfect way to raise awareness of important environmental issues. Raising awareness of these issues isn't confined to a single day, however, and slogans are a great way to pass on the green message.

Raise awareness with a slogan

Slogans have long been used as a way to communicate important messages. Unlike lengthy essays, poems or speeches, a slogan is short and to the point. One of the most important aspects of a slogan is that it is easy to remember. This makes it a good way to communicate a message to people from all walks of life and backgrounds. Earth Day slogans are an important way to raise awareness of environmental issues.

Types of Earth Day Slogans

As there are so many important issues that are facing our environment currently, there is an almost inexhaustible supply of potential environmental slogans. The focus of an Earth Day slogan is the earth combined with some of the key issues of the time. Some popular Earth Day slogans include:

  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – ideal for reminding people about the importance of recycling
  • Celebrate Earth Day Every Day – this slogan stresses the fact that the issues facing the environment exist every day, not just on Earth Day
  • Think Green, Go Green, Live Green – this is a good slogan for stressing that going green is a way of life
  • Look After the Earth, It Is The Only One We Have – this popular slogan highlights the fact that we only have one world and that we are all custodians
  • Plant a Tree for Me – slogans about trees are important to highlight the important part that trees and plants play in the environment
  • Live Every Day Like Earth Day – this slogan encourages people to think about how they lead their lives every day
  • Every Action Matters – stressing that no step is too small is an important environmental message

Using Earth Day Slogans

Earth Day slogans can be used every day to keep the message about the environment fresh in people's minds. Slogans can be printed onto posters, postcards or a wide variety of other items. Mugs, pens and even clothing such as t-shirts and hats are a great way to display slogans and when teamed with an appropriate image, are bound to cause comment. Earth Day slogans are perfect for using in Earth Day Projects and children's activities.

What Makes a Good Slogan?

Not all slogans are successful. While some are memorable, others are instantly forgotten. A successful slogan needs to be remembered and passed on. Here are some tips for creating great slogans:

  • Short – slogans are often written on posters or flyers, chanted at rallies or simply used as a form of advertising. Therefore they should be kept short and to the point. A slogan that is too long is impractical.
  • Rhymes – people find short rhymes easy to remember. A slogan with a rhyme or that uses alliteration is often successful.
  • Don't be aggressive – a slogan needs to be short and to the point, however it should not come over as being overtly aggressive. With the environment being such an important cause, it can be tempting to create slogans that imply 'do this or else' (for instance 'save the earth or die'). This can potentially turn people away and put them off learning more about how they can help the environment.
  • Fun and amusing – people are receptive to things that make them smile. While environmental issues are extremely serious, the message can sometimes be given in a fun or amusing way. This isn't always appropriate, however an amusing slogan can be an important part of a mix of communication tools.

Using great Earth Day slogans is an effective way to help spread the message about important environmental issues and the importance of a good slogan or two should never be overlooked.
